OSCAR WALDAN - Established 1979 - The Chronograph Master
Below is a little bit of information about Oscar and his timepieces - and now you will see a new version of his dials with his full name in signature form. The name change from "Waldan International" to "Oscar Waldan" is one of those "It's about time" or "things that should have been done years ago" good marketing strategies. A watch with the name "Waldan International" was fine, but with the new signature on it, the watch becomes even more collectible.
Waldan watches have been available for a number of years from Waldan International as well as from other companies that had their name put on the dial (which is why they may look familiar to you). [Oscar also used the names Waldan International, and Ekegren Geneve. But he chose to concentrate more on Waldan International because it was his own name so he could get recognition.]* They all have a traditional style to them and seem to fit into a category that is "not new" and certainly "not old" but sort of "just right" for today's fine timepiece collector.
All of the Oscar Waldan watches are large. (I have even heard them described as massive), and all are made of 18K gold.
His alarm watch is one of the prettiest watches available today - as well as being very functional. As far as I'm concerned, the alarm watch is one of the most functional watches that you can own!
Every Oscar Waldan watch is created with quality as the number one criteria. Note that there are at least three grades of movements in existence, and obviously the grading is based on the quality of material that goes into the making of the movement. All of the movements that are used in Oscar Waldan watches are of the highest grade available.
The dials are also all first-class and the markers are all hand-applied. All of the sapphire crystals are curved, and if you're lucky enough to purchase one of the special solid gold bracelets Oscar offers, you will have one of the best dressed, highest quality wristwatches that you can buy today - at a very reasonable price.
Waldan wristwatches should cost twice the amount of money that they are being sold for! I base this statement on the following: the quality of material, the size of the watch (with the amount of 18K gold that goes into making each of these timepieces) and the attention to detail that Oscar puts into every watch. He is very detailed, very focused, and very concerned about putting out a quality piece of workmanship that he (and the wearer) can be proud of.
I have chosen to put an Oscar Waldan watch on the cover because I like Oscar, and I like what he produces. (Note: For some reason, he doesn't let me buy him lunch; that's why I go to see him all the time.)
The autobiography below is a fine look at some of the history of living masters. It's a great read.
Thank you Oscar
